A Tale of Two Camping Trips

In June of this year, we went on our first camping trip with the girls. It was at a group campsite near a lake above Auburn. This is an annual trip organized by Grandma Sandy & Grandpa Tim’s friends Jon & Darlene. There were a lot of friends & family, some we had never met before. The girls had a lot of fun! We went on short hikes, played in the lake, and even went for kayak rides. In the evening when it was dark, there was a big fire with everyone gathering around to toast marshmallows and sing while Jon played his guitar. Cora even gave a solo performance of Twinkle Twinkle Little Star. Cora also decided it would be fun to play in the ashes of the fire and got herself covered with soot. Cousins Cianna, Piercen, and Breanna were there to play with and there were lots of dogs along to play with or stear clear of. All in all it was a fun trip and the girls experienced their first water balloons before we left.

Our second camping trip was to Lassen Volcanic National Park with Aunt Ingrid, Uncle Marty, and cousin Dana. We stayed at the Manzanita Lake campground in two adjacent sites. Aunt CC came along for the first day, but didn’t spend the night. We played in the snow at Lake Helen, and splashed in the water and rode the kayak at Lake Manzanita where it was hot. Aunt Ingrid planned the meals and we ate well. We went on a couple of long hikes, the girls had it pretty though. If they got tired they just got carried in the backpack. Andrew even carried both Cora & Olivia for a while! The girls seemed to have a lot of fun playing together, getting dirty, coloring, they even liked playing in the kayak at the campsite and in the cars pretending they were driving. Olivia started calling Uncle Marty “Papa,” after all that’s what Dana calls him, it must be his name! Cora & Olivia had a great time camping and are looking forward to doing it again next year!
